Neil Gaiman has revealed the three pulp-fiction-inspired covers that will grace the upcoming mass-market paperback reissues of Stardust, Anansi Boys and Neverwhere (in an “Author’s Preferred Text” edition, which includes the Neverwhere short story “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back”).

All three illustrations were done by 90-year-old artist Robert McGinnis. Of the Neverwhere cover, Gaiman wrote: “I loved his initial sketch, but I asked Robert McGinnis to add the rats when he painted it. The cover was inspired by early ’70s gothic romances, and Todd Klein did the title and lettering style inspired by them. Gloriously retro.”

You can pre-order these new editions on Amazon. Stardust will drop on September 27, with Anansi Boys following on October 15 and Neverwhere on November 29
