October 8, 2016 The Librarian 0

Lest you think our scary stories launch bash is a little North America-centric, allow me to tag in award-winning author and editor Lee Murray, who is based way, way across the pond in New Zealand. She brings some welcome lesser known works to our list of literary scares. * * * 31 Days of Halloween… with Lee Murray Describe a time when a scene in a horror novel really unnerved you or caused you to [READ MORE]

31 Days of Halloween… with MARIA ALEXANDER

October 7, 2016 The Librarian 0

It’s Friday! And it didn’t slip by on me this week. Since it’s always kind of dark here in the Library, the days have a tendency to blur together – I know, I know, get out more, stop getting lost in all the books. But, but, the to-be-read pile, so hulking, so threatening to crush me… Anyway, speaking of Friday and books, it’s also that day of the week where folks on social media (okay, Twitter mostly) [READ MORE]

31 Days of Halloween… with JESS PEACOCK

October 6, 2016 The Librarian 0

You’ll notice that the tagline of our site does not say “horror fiction.” That’s because here at the Library have an appreciation for non-fiction as well. Hell, we even like poetry. The good stuff anyway. But for today’s installment of 31 Days of Halloween, we’re pleased to add a more academic voice to the discussion. Jess Peacock is the author of Such a Dark Thing: Theology of the Vampire Narrative in Popular Culture from Wipf and [READ MORE]

31 Days of Halloween… with JOSH MALERMAN

October 4, 2016 The Librarian 1

Josh Malerman broke onto the horror fiction scene in 2014 with Bird Box – one of those name-making first novels that anyone who complains that there’s nothing original left in the horror genre should definitely check out. When he’s not writing fiction – his second novel Black Mad Wheel is due out next year – he fronts the rock band The High Strung. I first interviewed Malerman when he was doing the press tour for [READ MORE]

October 3, 2016 The Librarian 0

For the last two days, the boys have been having all the fun, talking about what literary tales of terror have had them shivering, shaking and quaking.
